Let us yielding Vine dictionary regarding this word "hallowed": jagiazo ( α ̓ για ζω G37) make holy (of jaagios, holy; vEASE B, No. 1). It means setting apart for God, sanctifying, making a person or thing the opposite of koinos, common. "It is used:(a) of gold adorning the temple and of the offering placed on the altar ( Mat_23: 17 , 19); (b) of food ( 1Ti_4: 5 ); © of theunbelieving spouse of a believing person ( 1Co_7: 14 ); (d) theceremonialcleansingof the Israelites ( Heb_9: 13 );
(e) of the name of the Father ( Luk_11: 2 );
(f) the consecration of the Son by the Father ( Joh_10: 36 ); (g) of the Lord Jesus dedicating himself to the redemption of his people ( Joh_17: 19 );
(h) the fact of setting apart the believer for God ( Act_20: 32 ; cf. Rom_15: 16 );
(i) the effect on the believer of the death of Christ ( Heb_10: 10 , said of God, and 2.11; 13.12, said of the Lord Jesus);
(j) of the believer's separation from the world in his conduct, by the Father through the Word ( Joh_17: 17 , 19);
(k) of the believer who turns away from those things that dishonor God and his gospel ( 2Ti_2: 21 );
(1) of the recognition of the lordship of Christ ( 1Pe_3: 15 ). In Rev_22: 11 "he who is holy, let him sanctify himself still", the aorist or punctual time expresses the final and consummate of the divine act. "Because every believer is sanctified in Christ Jesus ( 1Co_1: 2 , cf. Heb_10: 10 ), a frequent designation in the NT for all believers is" holy, "jagioi, that is," sanctified. " Thus holiness, or sanctification, is not an achievement, but the state to which God, in his grace, calls sinners, and in which they begin their course as Christians ( Col_3: 12 ;Heb_3: 1 )”(from Notes on Thessalonians, by Hogg and Vine, pp. 113-114). With this in mind, let us return to the verse you mentioned: Heb_10: 29 How much more punishment do you think he will deserve who tramples on the Son of God, and considers the blood of the covenant in which he was sanctified as unclean , and offends the Spirit of grace ? You say something very correct and I quote you: "... it is much more probable, if not certain, that the meaning that fits most with Hebrews 10:29 is sanctification involved in the process of salvation" Very true! But I am missing the final thrust ... "... but I never reach conversion" which converts it to what we already know: an apostate. Willy
ἁγιάζω,v \{hag-ee-ad'-zo}
